ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Root Canal Treatment — Sarasota, FL — Sterling Dental

The soft area in the middle of the tooth where the veins, nerves, and connective tissues are located is called the dental pulp. If the dental pulp becomes infected or diseased, Dr. David Smith may recommend a root canal in Sarasota, Florida. During root canal treatment, our dentist will remove the diseased dental pulp, clean the tooth, and seal it. If you notice any of the following signs and symptoms, our dentist may perform root canal treatment:

  • Toothache
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
  • Darkening of a tooth
  • Swelling and tenderness  in the gums
  • A persistent pimple on the gums

To perform root canal treatment, an X-ray is taken so our dentist can examine the shape of your root canals and check for signs of infection in the surrounding bone. Our dentist will then make an access hole in the tooth, through which the infected pulp, bacteria, and debris are removed. Root canal files are used to clean the tooth out all the way down the roots. Once our dentist has thoroughly cleaned your tooth, he will seal it with a rubber compound and a sealer paste. Our dentist will then close the access hole with a dental filling.
