Sometimes it’s easy to overeat, especially during the holidays. This is common for many people, but when they constantly overeat, it can be a problem. Overeating can harm your body and even your smile, especially when you have high amounts of sugary and acidic foods. So, it’s best to try to avoid overeating as much as possible. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Borys Averbukh, has some tips for you.
First, only eat when you’re hungry. Our bodies are smart—they tell us when we’re hungry and when we’re full. This means you need to listen to your body as much as possible and stop eating when you’re full. However, sometimes the body wants food when we’re sad, bored, or even thirsty, so make sure to listen to your body and only eat when you actually need food.
Second, eat fat. Fat is a substance that helps you feel more satisfied. It also takes some time to digest, so you should feel full for a longer period of time. So, when you’re hungry, try to eat more fatty foods so your body can be satisfied.
Third, don’t starve yourself. It’s oftentimes easy to overeat when you’re extremely hungry. This typically occurs when you withhold food from yourself for a long time. So, if you follow the first rule (to eat when you’re hungry), there is a better chance that you’ll avoid starving yourself. You can meet this goal by keeping a granola bar or apple in your bag and eating them when necessary.
