Are you a wrestler? If so, you’re probably focused on losing more weight, becoming stronger, and increasing your speed. Another thing you should focus on is your smile. This is important because your teeth and gums can reap the consequences of this wrestling season if you’re not careful. So, to help you have a top-notch smile while you wrestle, our dentist, Dr. Borys Averbukh, has some tips for you.
First, wear a mouthguard. A mouthguard is a strong, dependable appliance that shields your smile from injury. It can help you prevent chipped, broken, and knocked-out teeth as well as damaged gums and an injured tongue. So, make sure to wear your mouthguard when you practice and compete because we all know there is a high chance of your mouth getting hit while you wrestle.
Second, avoid drinking sports drinks. Sports drinks promote cavities because they are loaded with sugar. So, it’s best to drink water instead. Or, to reduce the effects of the sports drink, you can immediately rinse with water after consuming the beverage.
