When placing a dental filling, our dentist will remove the decayed area using a drill, air abrasion instrument, or laser. The space is probed to ensure that all of the decay has been removed. Then our dentist will clear the space of debris and bacteria. The dental filling is then placed. Unlike other dental filling materials, composite dental fillings are placed in layers. Our dentist will cure, or harden, each layer as it is applied. When all of the layers are in place, our dentist will shape the dental filling and trim off any extra material. Our dentist will then polish your final dental filling.
